Islandexpedititon:
The next day we
planned an island trip, because west of Jaffna there are many islands and also the water way up to India.
First adventure was the bus ride; they kept starring at us, crazy. It was very
muggy in there because everybody was sweating, pfuiii. I tried to enjoy the
landscape, beautiful lakes with the surrounding nature! We arrived at the
island, but we still had to take a boat to the island where we wanted to see
the temple. Before we got on the boat we had to go through a checkpoint. And as
some of you already suspect, yes they stopped me! They wanted to see my
passport and looked at my last name. Armenat: that’s a Tamil name…hmm, I don’t
think so, because I would know about it!! Finally they let us go and we jumped
on the boat.
And again, heaps
of people squashed in one boat with the annoying noise of the engine.
‘I had to be
damn patient at 35 degrees in the shade…puuh’. Anyway, we were happy to arrive
on the other side.
We liked the
view - similar to a lagoon. Afterwards we had a look at the cemetery from LTTE
soldiers who died in the war. And as we were standing there and waiting two
hours for the bus to get to the next city, I had a rest and took a seat on the
wall until a motorcycle came and the driver suggested to get down because in
times of the civil war I would’nt have stayed on there for long, ooops…After a
while of waiting we were lucky because two army soldier picked us up and took
us on their little truck, or whatever it was, as you see on the last picture.
We drove cross-country to the next city…
